In Flash |
| |
This format gives a book a natural look. The pages look like real paper pages with a "page flick" facility that curls the corners as the pages turn.
Flash is a very versatile format allowing a wide range of features and special effects to be included in the publication. These include animations, streaming video, panoramic images and much more.
Flash files require a reader (Flash Player) however most modern systems come with this already built in, alternatively a free download facility is available on the web.
Flash ebooks are easy to distribute as .swf files because they are not blocked by mail systems that filter out .exe files.
Flash ebooks can also be provided on CD or saved to a laptop hard drive as a presentation tool.
The average file size of a typical 20 page flash publication is less than 1MB.

In DNL |

The DNL format offers an alternative means of publishing ebooks. It is more conventional in styling but has the same versatility of the flash format.
DNL ebooks have additional features that make them an attractive alternative and that includes the ability for the user to add content to the ebook and save it. The user also has the facility to bundle the ebook and send it on to others with the simple click of a button.
DNL files also require a reader; this is just a small file and works the same way as the Flash Player. Once it has been downloaded onto your computer you will always have it for future DNL ebooks.
This format can also be supplied as an .exe file with the reader built in for distribution on CD. The .exe file can also be emailed successfully when zipped.
The average size of a 20 page DNL publication is around 800KB. |
